Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run When I was a freshman in college, some of my classmates asked me to join their band on stage for a couple of songs, one of which was Born to Run. I had never played with a rock band before and I had no idea that I could play a concert without sheet music, that I could just listen to the record and figure it out, and then make up the ready as I went along, and it would be ok. I'm glad I said yes. I guess it went alright. The band asked me to join them again a few months later for Never Tear Us Apart by INXS. I learned a lot about myself as a musician and I learned much more about being a saxophonist in a rock band from the playing of Clarence Clemons. You know the Big Man is a big deal when the Brecker brothers and David Sanborn are brought in to back him up on Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out. There is a reason Clarence is the only one with Bruce on the album cover. Not to take anything away from Roy Bittan, Gary Tallent or Max Weinberg; as rhythm sections go, they don't really get tighter than this. There really isn't a better Rock and Roll band out there.
